| The old Borden milk plant on West Broadway not far from the heart of old downtown. The plant has been closed for decades. It was sold during 2003 to a Midland company with plans to market it as a city hall. Mt. Pleasant was committed to keeping this building. MPHS Class of 1959 members can remember during their youthful years when farm dairy trucks were lined up unloading large cans of milk at this site. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Nov. 8, 2005 Mt. Pleasant voters had the ultimate say on the 16th, and perhaps final, attempt to reuse the former Borden Condensory building, reported the 10 /23/2005 Mount Pleasant Morning Sun. Its news stories detail the latest 2005 plans to renovate the old Borden plant which would include City Hall plus an adjacent condominium and retail development. | Island Park, long a central focus of city recreation, includes a skate park where the old swimming pool was located. Tennis courts are there as they were 50 years ago. Island Park is also home of the Vietnam War Memorial, softball, and a farmers' market. The park's entrance is on north Main Street, something that has never changed. |
