| MPHS Class of 1959 establishes Legacy Scholarship Fund
The 50th Reunion Committee wants to commemorate our 50th year and our classmates who are no longer with us. We decided to establish a Mt. Pleasant High School Class of 1959 Legacy Fund. This is a scholarship fund which will target those graduates of MPHS, the Mt. Pleasant Technical Center or the Oasis High School who want to pursue a vocational or trade program at a community college, a trade or vocational school or university. It will be a two year scholarship which we will grant every other year. This Legacy fund will be managed by and be a part of the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation. We have in the last month (July) raised $12, 420. One of our classmates has generously offered to match the first $25,000 received dollar for dollar. This effectively doubles any gift you may make. You can give now, or you can make a pledge and pay it over three years’ time. We can continue to give in the future – you can even make a bequest in your will. Please join together to make this a significant legacy from our class. Any amount, small or large, is great. Donations should be sent to the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation, PO Box 1283, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48804-1283 with a notation that it is for the MPHS Class of 1959 Legacy Fund. Any questions, call Marcia Woodby Zech (206-232-9838) or e-mail Bob McAlester at rtmcalester@yahoo.com. |

| Marcia Woodby Zech told Class of '59 members attending the September, 19 (2009) Riverwood Golf Resort banquet that our class had collected almost $55,000 in donations and pledges toward the newly created MPHS Class of 1959 Legacy Scholarship Fund. This Fund is a unique contribution toward providing two year scholarships for graduates of MPHS, Mt. Pleasant Technical Center, or Oasis High School graduates who want to further their education at a community college, trade or vocational school, or university. The subcommitee that led this effort under the auspices to the MPHS Class of 1959 Reunion Committee was: Marcia Woodby Zech, Janice Brien Huffman, Bob McAlester, and Gary Taylor. Kudos to our class efforts almost unique in MPHS history although Marcia learned that another class has also created a scholarship fund. |
